  • Macrophages: The Key Cells in Connective Tissue Cleanup and Immunity
The cells responsible for removing damaged cells and pathogens from connective tissue are macrophages.

    Here's why:

    * Phagocytosis: Macrophages are professional phagocytes, meaning they engulf and digest cellular debris, bacteria, viruses, and other foreign substances.

    * Immune Response: They play a crucial role in the immune response by presenting antigens to other immune cells, initiating an inflammatory response, and secreting cytokines to coordinate immune activity.

    * Connective Tissue Residence: Macrophages are found throughout the body, including within connective tissue, where they patrol and remove harmful substances.

While other cells may contribute to some degree, macrophages are the primary cells responsible for this essential function in connective tissue.
