  • Ribosomes in Fungi: Understanding the 80S Structure
Fungi, like all eukaryotic organisms, have 80S ribosomes.

    Here's why:

    * 80S ribosomes are the type found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells. They are composed of a large 60S subunit and a small 40S subunit.

    * 70S ribosomes are found in prokaryotes (bacteria and archaea).

While fungi are eukaryotic, they do have some similarities with bacteria in their cell walls and some metabolic pathways. However, their ribosomes are distinctly eukaryotic.
