  • Understanding Binomial Nomenclature: What's Another Name for a Scientific Name?
The scientific name is also known as the binomial name.

This is because it consists of two parts:

    * Genus: The first part of the name, written with a capital letter.

    * Species: The second part of the name, written in lowercase.

For example, the scientific name for humans is *Homo sapiens*. "Homo" is the genus, and "sapiens" is the species.
