  • Sperm Cells: Understanding Haploid Gametes & Male Reproduction
    Sperm is a haploid gamete.

    Here's why:

    * Gamete: A gamete is a reproductive cell that fuses with another gamete during fertilization to form a zygote, which develops into an organism.

    * Haploid: Haploid cells contain only one set of chromosomes. In humans, this means they have 23 chromosomes.

Sperm is the male gamete, and it contributes half the genetic material needed to create a new individual. The other half comes from the female gamete, the egg.
