  • What Are Protozoa? Defining Animal-Like Single-Celled Organisms
Single-celled creatures that act like animals are called protozoans.

While they aren't technically animals (they lack the complex multicellular organization that defines animals), protozoans share some animal-like characteristics:

    * Heterotrophic: They obtain nutrition by consuming other organisms.

    * Motile: They can move independently using various mechanisms like cilia, flagella, or pseudopods.

    * Lack a cell wall: Unlike plants and fungi, protozoans don't have a rigid cell wall.

Some examples of protozoans include amoebas, paramecia, and euglena.
