  • Cytoskeleton: The Cell's Internal Framework for Movement & Support
    The organelle responsible for movement and support of the cell is the cytoskeleton.

    Here's why:

    * Movement: The cytoskeleton acts like a network of internal "tracks" and "ropes" that help the cell move, change shape, and transport materials within itself.

    * Support: The cytoskeleton provides structural support for the cell, helping it maintain its shape and resisting external pressure.

    The cytoskeleton is made up of three main components:

    * Microtubules: These are hollow tubes made of tubulin protein. They help with cell division, movement of organelles, and provide structure for cilia and flagella.

    * Microfilaments: These are thin, solid fibers made of actin protein. They are involved in cell movement, muscle contraction, and cytokinesis (cell division).

    * Intermediate filaments: These are tough, rope-like fibers made of various proteins. They provide mechanical strength and support, anchoring organelles and linking cells together.

    So, while other organelles like cilia and flagella might be involved in movement, the cytoskeleton is the overarching structure that provides the framework for both movement and support within the cell.
