  • Understanding Symbiosis: Types and Examples
Symbiosis refers to a close and long-term interaction between two different biological organisms. There are three main types of symbiosis:

    1. Mutualism: A relationship where both organisms benefit from the interaction.

    * Example: Bees pollinating flowers. The bees get nectar and pollen for food, while the flowers get pollinated, allowing them to reproduce.

    2. Commensalism: A relationship where one organism benefits, and the other is neither harmed nor helped.

    * Example: Barnacles on a whale. The barnacles get a place to live and feed, while the whale is not affected.

    3. Parasitism: A relationship where one organism benefits at the expense of the other.

    * Example: A tapeworm living in a human's gut. The tapeworm gets food and shelter, while the human may experience malnutrition and other health problems.
