  • Carl Linnaeus: The Father of Modern Biological Classification
The scientist most instrumental in creating a system for classifying organisms is Carl Linnaeus.

He developed a system of binomial nomenclature, which gives every species a unique two-part scientific name (e.g., *Homo sapiens* for humans). He also classified organisms into a hierarchical system of categories, starting with the broadest categories (kingdom) and going down to the most specific (species). This system, which is still used today, has been incredibly useful for organizing and understanding the diversity of life on Earth.
