Here's why:
* Chloroplasts: Leaves are packed with chloroplasts, the organelles that contain chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the pigment that absorbs light energy, primarily in the red and blue wavelengths, for photosynthesis.
* Large Surface Area: Leaves have a large, flat surface area that maximizes their exposure to sunlight.
* Arrangement: Leaves are often arranged in a way that allows them to intercept sunlight efficiently, such as in a spiral pattern on stems or in a rosette form at ground level.
While stems, flowers, and even some roots can also perform some photosynthesis, their contribution is much smaller than that of leaves.
