  • Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER): Structure, Types, and Functions in Animal Cells
The organelle with a netlike structure in the cytoplasm of animal cells is the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).

There are two types of ER:

    * Rough ER: This type has ribosomes attached to its surface, giving it a rough appearance. It plays a role in protein synthesis and modification.

    * Smooth ER: This type lacks ribosomes and has a smooth appearance. It is involved in lipid synthesis, detoxification, and calcium storage.

Both types of ER form a complex network of interconnected membranes that extend throughout the cytoplasm, creating a kind of internal "highway system" for transporting molecules within the cell.
