1. Lack of a membrane-bound nucleus: Prokaryotes do not have a nucleus enclosed by a membrane to contain their genetic material (DNA). Instead, their DNA is located in a region called the nucleoid, which is not separated from the rest of the cell by a membrane.
2. Lack of membrane-bound organelles: Prokaryotes lack other membrane-bound organelles that are found in eukaryotic cells, such as mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, etc. They perform their cellular functions using specialized regions within their cytoplasm and their cell membrane.
