  • Understanding Stimuli: How Organisms Respond to Their Environment
Anything an organism responds to is a stimulus.

A stimulus is anything that causes a reaction or response in an organism. This could be:

    * External stimuli: things from the environment, such as light, sound, temperature, chemicals, touch, etc.

    * Internal stimuli: things happening within the organism, such as hunger, thirst, pain, etc.

The response to a stimulus can be physical, behavioral, or physiological.
