  • The Nervous System: Your Body's Communication Network
The nervous system is responsible for receiving environmental messages and sending them to the brain.

    Here's how it works:

    * Sensory receptors: Specialized cells in your body (like those in your eyes, ears, skin, nose, and tongue) detect changes in the environment. These are called sensory receptors.

    * Nerves: Sensory receptors send signals along nerves to the brain.

    * Brain: The brain interprets these signals and decides how to respond.

For example, if you touch a hot stove, the sensory receptors in your skin send a pain signal to your brain via nerves. The brain then processes this information and instructs your muscles to pull your hand away.
