  • Chloroplasts: Unique to Plant Cells - Function & Importance
The structure found mostly in green plant cells but not animal cells is the chloroplast.

    Here's why:

    * Chloroplasts are the organelles responsible for photosynthesis. They contain chlorophyll, the pigment that captures light energy and converts it into chemical energy in the form of sugars.

    * Animal cells do not perform photosynthesis and therefore do not have chloroplasts. They obtain their energy from consuming other organisms.
