  • Ovaries: Where Female Egg Cells (Ova) Are Produced - Anatomy & Function
Female sex cells, also known as ova or egg cells, are made in the ovaries.

The ovaries are a pair of almond-shaped organs located in the lower abdomen of a woman. They serve two main functions:

    * Producing eggs: This process, called oogenesis, begins before a female is even born and continues throughout her reproductive years.

    * Producing hormones: The ovaries also produce hormones like estrogen and progesterone, which are crucial for female development and reproduction.
