  • Understanding Muscle Tissue: Structure and Function
The tissue that makes up organs able to contract or shorten is muscle tissue.

There are three main types of muscle tissue:

    * Skeletal muscle: Attached to bones, responsible for voluntary movement.

    * Smooth muscle: Found in the walls of internal organs (like the stomach, intestines, and blood vessels), responsible for involuntary movement.

    * Cardiac muscle: Found only in the heart, responsible for pumping blood throughout the body.

All three types of muscle tissue have specialized cells that can contract, allowing organs to perform their specific functions.
