    The process by which cells produce new cells is called cell division.

    There are two main types of cell division:

    * Mitosis: This is the process by which a single cell divides into two identical daughter cells. This is how most cells in the body reproduce.

    * Meiosis: This is a specialized type of cell division that produces gametes (sperm and egg cells). It involves two divisions and results in four daughter cells, each with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
