  • Phytoplankton: The Tiny Algae Producing Half the Earth's Oxygen
    The organisms that produce about half of the oxygen on Earth are phytoplankton.

    These tiny, single-celled algae live in the ocean and are responsible for a huge amount of the oxygen we breathe. While trees and other land plants are important oxygen producers, phytoplankton actually contribute more to the Earth's oxygen supply.
