  • Plant Storage Tissues: Understanding Parenchyma and More
The tissue of a plant that stores sugar and starches is called parenchyma.

Specifically, there are two types of parenchyma involved in storage:

    * Storage parenchyma: This type is found throughout the plant, but is particularly concentrated in roots, stems, and fruits. It stores sugars, starches, and other nutrients for later use.

    * Chlorenchyma: This type is found in leaves and is responsible for photosynthesis. While its primary function is to produce sugars, it can also store some sugars and starches.

So, while both types of parenchyma contribute to storage, storage parenchyma is the primary tissue dedicated to holding these important reserves for the plant.
