  • Anaerobic Respiration: Organisms & Examples
Anaerobic respiration occurs in a wide variety of organisms, including:

    * Bacteria: Many bacteria, especially those living in oxygen-poor environments, rely on anaerobic respiration.

    * Archaea: Like bacteria, some archaea utilize anaerobic respiration to generate energy.

    * Yeast: Yeast is a type of fungus that can perform both aerobic and anaerobic respiration, the latter known as fermentation.

    * Parasites: Some parasitic organisms, like the parasitic roundworm *Ascaris lumbricoides*, utilize anaerobic respiration in oxygen-deprived environments within their hosts.

    * Muscle cells (in animals): During intense exercise, when oxygen supply is limited, muscle cells can switch to anaerobic respiration (lactic acid fermentation) to produce energy.

It's important to note that while many organisms can perform anaerobic respiration, it is not their primary mode of energy production. Most organisms prefer aerobic respiration, which is much more efficient in energy production.
