  • Where is DNA Located in Prokaryotic Cells? | Biology Explained
In prokaryotic organisms, DNA is found in a region called the nucleoid.

    Here's why:

    * No nucleus: Prokaryotes lack a membrane-bound nucleus, unlike eukaryotic cells.

    * Circular DNA: Their DNA is typically circular and is not organized into chromosomes like eukaryotic DNA.

    * Nucleoid region: The DNA is concentrated in a specific area within the cytoplasm called the nucleoid. This region is not enclosed by a membrane.

Therefore, while not a nucleus, the nucleoid is where the genetic material of prokaryotic cells resides.
