  • Understanding DNA Translation: Where Does It Begin?
DNA translation doesn't start with anything. Translation is the process of using the information in mRNA to build a protein, not DNA.

    Here's the breakdown:

    1. Transcription: DNA is transcribed into mRNA. This happens in the nucleus of the cell.

    2. Translation: mRNA moves out of the nucleus and into the cytoplasm, where ribosomes translate the mRNA sequence into a protein.

So, the "start" of translation is the mRNA molecule, not the DNA molecule.

The specific start codon on the mRNA molecule is AUG, which codes for the amino acid methionine. This is where the ribosome attaches to the mRNA and begins building the protein.
