  • Prokaryotes: Understanding Cells Without a Nucleus - Definition & Examples
Organisms that have cells lacking a true nucleus are called prokaryotes.

Here are some examples of prokaryotes:

    * Bacteria: These are single-celled organisms that are incredibly diverse and found in almost every environment on Earth.

    * Archaea: These are another group of single-celled organisms that are often found in extreme environments, such as hot springs or salty lakes.

Instead of a nucleus, prokaryotes have a single, circular chromosome located in a region of the cytoplasm called the nucleoid. They also lack other membrane-bound organelles that are found in eukaryotic cells.
