  • Chloroplasts: The Powerhouse of Plant Cells - Energy & Food Production
The cell that captures energy and produces food is called a chloroplast.

    Here's why:

    * Energy Capture: Chloroplasts contain a green pigment called chlorophyll. This pigment absorbs light energy from the sun.

    * Food Production: Chloroplasts use the captured light energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose (a sugar that is food for the plant) and oxygen. This process is called photosynthesis.

So, chloroplasts are the powerhouses of plant cells, capturing sunlight and making food for the plant to grow and thrive!
