  • Understanding Meiosis: Types of Cells Produced (Gametes)
    Meiosis produces gametes, which are also known as sex cells. These include:

    * Sperm cells in males

    * Egg cells (ova) in females

    Gametes are haploid, meaning they contain only half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. This is important for sexual reproduction, as it ensures that the offspring inherit one set of chromosomes from each parent, resulting in a diploid (full set of chromosomes) organism.
