  • Reproduction: The Key to Species Survival, Not Individual Life
The life function necessary to the species but not the individual organism is reproduction.

    Here's why:

    * Individual organisms can live, grow, and even die without ever reproducing. Their individual existence is complete.

    * Species, however, rely on reproduction to continue. Without reproduction, a species would eventually die out as all existing individuals age and perish.

Therefore, reproduction is the key life function that ensures the survival and continuation of a species, but is not essential for the individual's survival.
