  • Cell Division: Mitosis & Meiosis Explained - Growth & Reproduction
The dividing of cells into two daughter cells is called cell division.

There are two main types of cell division:

    * Mitosis: This is the process of cell division that produces two identical daughter cells, each with the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell. It's how our bodies grow and repair tissues.

    * Meiosis: This is the process of cell division that produces four daughter cells, each with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. It's how our bodies produce gametes (sperm and egg cells) for sexual reproduction.
