  • Pancreas: Exocrine & Endocrine Functions Explained
The pancreas is a mixed gland, meaning it acts as both an exocrine gland and an endocrine gland.

    Exocrine function:

    * Produces digestive enzymes (amylase, lipase, protease) that are secreted into the small intestine through ducts. These enzymes break down carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, respectively.

    Endocrine function:

    * Produces hormones (insulin and glucagon) that are secreted directly into the bloodstream. These hormones regulate blood sugar levels.

So, while the pancreas has a primary role in digestion, it also plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels, making it a unique and essential organ.
