There are two main types of nucleic acids:
* Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA): DNA is the primary storage molecule for genetic information in most organisms. It contains the instructions for building and maintaining an organism.
* Ribonucleic acid (RNA): RNA plays various roles in the cell, including acting as a messenger for DNA's instructions (messenger RNA), helping to build proteins (transfer RNA), and even acting as a catalyst for some reactions (ribozymes).
While both DNA and RNA are involved in information storage and transfer, DNA is considered the primary storage molecule, with RNA acting as a temporary intermediary in many cellular processes.
