Here's why:
* Vascular tissue is responsible for transporting water and nutrients throughout the plant.
* Xylem, one of the two main types of vascular tissue, is composed of elongated cells called tracheids and vessel elements. These cells are dead at maturity and have hollow interiors, forming continuous tubes for water transport.
* Phloem, the other vascular tissue, also has elongated cells called sieve-tube elements and companion cells. These cells are alive but lack a nucleus and some other organelles, allowing for efficient nutrient transport.
So, all vascular plants, including trees, ferns, flowering plants, and conifers, contain these tube-like elongated cells within their vascular tissue.
