  • Mitosis: Understanding Asexual Cell Division
Mitosis is considered a form of asexual reproduction because it produces genetically identical daughter cells from a single parent cell. Here's why:

    * Single Parent: Mitosis involves only one parent cell that divides into two daughter cells.

    * No Genetic Mixing: The parent cell replicates its DNA, and each daughter cell receives an exact copy of the parent's genetic material. There's no combination of genetic material from two different parents, like in sexual reproduction.

    * Clones: The resulting daughter cells are genetically identical to the parent cell, making them clones.

In contrast, sexual reproduction involves the fusion of gametes (sex cells) from two parents, leading to offspring with a unique combination of genetic material.

Therefore, mitosis is considered asexual because it does not involve the fusion of gametes and results in genetically identical offspring.
