Meiosis in both males and females produces four cells. However, these cells are not all the same:

* Males: Meiosis in males produces four haploid sperm cells, each containing half the number of chromosomes as the original cell.

* Females: Meiosis in females produces one haploid egg cell and three polar bodies. The polar bodies are smaller cells that are not viable and eventually degenerate.

Therefore, while both sexes produce four cells through meiosis, only one of these cells in females is functional (the egg cell), while all four cells in males are functional (the sperm cells).
