  • Mitochondria & Chloroplasts: The Organelles with Their Own DNA - Biology Explained
    The two organelles that contain their own genetic material are:

    * Mitochondria

    * Chloroplasts

    These organelles are believed to have originated from ancient bacteria that were engulfed by eukaryotic cells and formed a symbiotic relationship. They retain their own circular DNA (similar to bacteria) and have their own ribosomes to translate their genetic information into proteins.
