  • Ribosomes: The Protein-Producing Powerhouses of the Cell
The cell organelle responsible for producing proteins is the ribosome.

    Here's why:

    * Ribosomes are the protein synthesis factories of the cell. They read the genetic code from messenger RNA (mRNA) and use that information to assemble amino acids into polypeptide chains, which fold into functional proteins.

    * Ribosomes are found in all living cells, both prokaryotic and eukaryotic.

    * Some ribosomes are free-floating in the cytoplasm, while others are attached to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). This difference reflects the destination of the proteins they produce: free ribosomes make proteins for use within the cell, while ER-bound ribosomes make proteins for export or for incorporation into membranes.
