  • The Discovery of Chromosome Theory of Inheritance: Sutton & Boveri
The chromosome theory of inheritance was developed by Walter Sutton and Theodor Boveri independently in the early 1900s.

While they worked separately, both scientists observed the behavior of chromosomes during cell division and realized their connection to the transmission of traits.

    * Walter Sutton (1902) studied grasshopper chromosomes and observed their pairing and separation during meiosis, linking this to Mendel's laws of inheritance.

    * Theodor Boveri (1902) worked with sea urchins and found that each chromosome carries a unique set of genes, emphasizing their role in heredity.

Their combined work led to the establishment of the chromosome theory of inheritance, which states that genes are located on chromosomes and that these chromosomes are responsible for transmitting traits from one generation to the next.
