  • DNA in Blood Cells: Understanding Genetic Material
    All blood cells have DNA!

While red blood cells lose their nucleus (and therefore most of their DNA) during maturation, all other blood cells, including:

    * White blood cells (leukocytes): These cells are responsible for fighting infections and have a full complement of DNA.

    * Platelets: These cell fragments are derived from megakaryocytes, which have DNA, and contain some residual DNA.

It's important to note that the DNA in red blood cells is not actively used for protein synthesis or other cellular functions. However, it can still be used for certain purposes, such as forensic analysis.
