  • Optimal pH for Bacterial Growth: Understanding Acidophiles & Alkaliphiles
Bacteria, as a group, have a wide range of pH optima, but most thrive in a slightly alkaline environment, typically between pH 6.5 and 7.5.

However, it's important to remember that there are exceptions:

    * Acidophilic bacteria thrive in acidic environments, like those found in the stomach (pH 1-3).

    * Alkaliphiles prefer very alkaline conditions, such as soda lakes (pH 10-12).

So, while the majority of bacteria grow best around neutral pH, there are many species that are adapted to specific pH conditions.
