Both animal and plant cells contain two types of ribosomes:
* 80S ribosomes: Found in the cytoplasm and associated with the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). These are the larger and more complex ribosomes responsible for synthesizing most proteins in the cell.
* 70S ribosomes: Found in organelles like mitochondria and chloroplasts (in plant cells). These smaller ribosomes are involved in protein synthesis within these organelles.
While the composition and specific proteins within the ribosomes may vary slightly between species, the overall structure and function of ribosomes in animal and plant cells are virtually identical.
