  • Cellular Support: Understanding Cytoskeleton and Cell Membrane
The cell's structural support is provided by a combination of different components, depending on the type of cell:

    For all cells:

    * Cytoskeleton: This network of protein filaments, made up of microtubules, microfilaments, and intermediate filaments, provides the cell with shape, support, and the ability to move. It also helps organize the cell's internal components and facilitates transport of materials.

    * Cell membrane: This thin, flexible barrier surrounds the cell and helps maintain its shape. It also controls what enters and exits the cell.

    For plant cells specifically:

    * Cell wall: This rigid, protective outer layer is made up of cellulose and other materials. It provides strength and support, allowing plants to stand upright and grow tall.

    For animal cells specifically:

    * Extracellular matrix (ECM): This complex network of proteins and carbohydrates surrounds animal cells and helps bind cells together, provides structural support, and influences cell behavior.

Let me know if you'd like to learn more about any of these components!
