  • Phloem: Understanding Plant Food Transport
The cells of a plant that move food either up or down the stem to other parts are called phloem.

    Here's why:

    * Phloem is one of the two main types of vascular tissue in plants, the other being xylem.

    * Xylem transports water and minerals upwards from the roots.

    * Phloem is responsible for transporting sugars (produced during photosynthesis) and other organic compounds throughout the plant.

Think of phloem as the plant's "food delivery system"!
