  • Cell Division: Mitosis & Meiosis Explained | Understanding Cell Reproduction
The life process by which new cells arise from existing cells is called cell division.

There are two main types of cell division:

    * Mitosis: This process produces two identical daughter cells from a single parent cell. It's used for growth, repair, and asexual reproduction in many organisms.

    * Meiosis: This process produces four daughter cells, each with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. It's used for sexual reproduction to create gametes (sperm and egg cells).

Both mitosis and meiosis involve a complex series of steps where the cell's DNA is duplicated and then divided equally between the daughter cells.
