  • Organelle Replication & Mitosis: How Organelles Divide
    That's a great question!

Organelles don't exactly make copies of themselves in the same way that DNA replicates. Instead, they grow and divide through a process called organelle biogenesis.

    Here's how it works:

    * Growth: Organelles increase in size by accumulating more of their specific components (proteins, lipids, etc.).

    * Division: Once they reach a certain size, they undergo a process of division, creating two smaller organelles.

    During mitosis:

    * Pre-existing organelles are distributed between the two daughter cells.

    * New organelles are also synthesized to ensure the daughter cells have enough for their own needs.

So, while not true "copying," organelle biogenesis and division ensure each daughter cell receives a sufficient number of organelles after mitosis.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
