  • Producers: Understanding Self-Feeding Organisms & Ecosystems
    A living organism that makes its own food is called a producer.

    Producers are the foundation of most ecosystems. They use energy from the sun (through photosynthesis) to convert inorganic substances like carbon dioxide and water into organic compounds like sugars, which they use as food.

    Some examples of producers include:

    * Plants: Trees, flowers, grasses, ferns

    * Algae: Seaweed, phytoplankton

    * Some bacteria: Cyanobacteria
