  • Double-Membrane Organelles with DNA: Chloroplasts & Nucleus
The two other organelles besides the mitochondria that contain DNA and have a double membrane are:

    1. Chloroplasts: Found in plant cells, chloroplasts are responsible for photosynthesis. They contain their own DNA, called chloroplast DNA (cpDNA), which is separate from the nuclear DNA. The double membrane structure of chloroplasts includes the outer membrane and the inner membrane, which encloses the stroma and the thylakoid system.

    2. Nucleus: This is the control center of the cell and contains the majority of the cell's genetic material in the form of DNA. The nuclear envelope, which consists of two lipid bilayers, separates the nucleus from the cytoplasm.

While the nucleus doesn't technically have its own DNA in the same way as mitochondria and chloroplasts (since it houses the cell's main DNA), it still has a double membrane and contains genetic material.
