Here's why:
* Gametes are reproductive cells (sperm and eggs) that are involved in sexual reproduction.
* Body cells (also called somatic cells) are all the other cells in your body.
* Chromosomes are structures in the nucleus of a cell that carry genetic information.
During sexual reproduction, a sperm and an egg combine their genetic material to form a zygote. This zygote develops into a new individual. To maintain the correct number of chromosomes in each generation, gametes have half the number of chromosomes as body cells. This process is called meiosis.
