  • Linear DNA: Understanding Eukaryotic Chromosomes
    Eukaryotic cells have linear DNA.

    Here's why:

    * Eukaryotes are organisms with complex cells that have a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles.

    * DNA in eukaryotic cells is organized into multiple linear chromosomes. Each chromosome is a single, very long molecule of DNA that is tightly packed with proteins (histones) to form a compact structure.

In contrast, prokaryotic cells (like bacteria and archaea) have circular DNA. Their DNA is typically a single, circular molecule that is located in a region of the cytoplasm called the nucleoid.
