  • Autotrophs: Understanding How Plants Make Their Own Food
The name given to plants because they make their food is autotrophs.

    Here's why:

    * Auto means "self" and troph means "nourishment".

    * Plants use a process called photosynthesis to make their own food using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.

    * They don't need to eat other organisms to survive, unlike animals (heterotrophs).

So, plants are called autotrophs because they are self-nourishing.
