  • Understanding Plant Cell Shape: Structure & Function
    Plant cells are typically rectangular or cuboidal in shape. This is due to the presence of a rigid cell wall made of cellulose, which gives the cell its defined shape.

    However, plant cells can also be irregularly shaped depending on their function and location within the plant. For example, cells in the xylem (water-conducting tissue) are elongated and tube-like, while cells in the parenchyma (packing tissue) can be more rounded.
