  • Flagella in Sponges: Structure and Function in Water Circulation
    The hair-like structures on a sponge cell that move back and forth to help move water, nutrients, and waste through the canal system are called flagella.

    These flagella are located on specialized cells called choanocytes, which line the internal chambers of the sponge. The beating of the flagella creates a current that draws water into the sponge, allowing for the capture of food particles and the removal of waste.
