  • The Nucleus: Where Genetic Information Resides in Cells
The part of a cell that carries information that determines traits is the nucleus.

    Here's why:

    * DNA: The nucleus contains the cell's DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). DNA is a long molecule that holds the genetic code, which is a set of instructions for building and maintaining an organism.

    * Genes: DNA is organized into units called genes. Each gene carries instructions for a specific trait, such as eye color, hair color, or height.

    * Chromosomes: DNA is packaged into structures called chromosomes. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, with one chromosome from each pair coming from the mother and the other from the father.

Therefore, the nucleus, which contains the DNA and genes, is the control center for the cell's activities and ultimately determines the traits of an organism.
